How we support Residents Health, Hygiene & Nutrition
At Cheshire Residential Homes Trust we understand that good health begins with the right balance of nutrition, hydration, and personalised care. Our approach focuses on supporting residents to maintain their health in a way that is both safe and enjoyable, recognising that everyone has different needs, preferences, and routines. From freshly prepared meals and regular drinks throughout the day to close monitoring of health and wellbeing, our team works together to ensure every resident receives the support they need. We also work closely with families and healthcare professionals to ensure care remains tailored to each individual, helping residents feel comfortable, well supported, and able to enjoy daily life within the home.
Nutrition
We believe that mealtimes should be both nutritious and enjoyable. Our kitchen team prepares fresh, balanced meals each day, taking into account residents’ personal preferences, dietary requirements, and cultural needs.
We cater for a wide range of dietary needs, including:
- Special diets such as diabetic, vegetarian, or allergen-free
- Modified textures for residents who require soft or pureed meals
- High-calorie or fortified meals for those who need extra nutritional support
Residents are encouraged to take part in menu choices wherever possible, helping ensure meals remain something to look forward to.
Hydration
Maintaining good hydration is essential for overall health and wellbeing. Our team regularly offers drinks throughout the day and encourages residents to stay hydrated.
We support hydration by:
- Offering a variety of drinks including water, juices, tea, coffee, and squash
- Providing regular drink rounds throughout the day
- Monitoring fluid intake when required
- Supporting residents who may need assistance with drinking
Our staff are trained to recognise the early signs of dehydration and act quickly to support residents who may need extra encouragement or monitoring.
Health and Wellbeing
Residents’ health is closely monitored by our experienced care team. We work with GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive the care and support they need.
This may include:
- Monitoring weight and nutritional intake
- Supporting with medication management
- Coordinating healthcare appointments
- Managing specialist dietary or medical needs
Our aim is to provide person-centred care, ensuring each resident’s health needs are understood and supported while maintaining their comfort, dignity, and independence.
