FAQs

Care

What is daily life like in the home?

Every day is different, with activities designed to keep residents active, engaged, and happy.

From gentle exercise, gardening, and crafts to music, games, and outings — there’s always something to look forward to.

Of course, participation is always a choice — some prefer quiet moments, and that’s equally respected.

What types of care do you provide?

We are a residential care home, offering 24/7 support with daily living such as personal care, nutritious meals, companionship, and wellbeing activities — all in a safe and welcoming environment.

We’re able to support residents in the early stages of dementia, providing reassurance and gentle guidance. However, we’re not a nursing home, so we’re unable to provide medical or advanced dementia care.

Alongside long-term residential care, we also offer:
Respite breaks — giving carers a well-earned rest while their loved one enjoys life with us
Day care — a great way to join our community without full-time commitment
End-of-life care — delivered with dignity, compassion, and sensitivity

If a resident’s needs change over time, we’ll work closely with families to review the best options together.

How will I be kept informed about my loved one?

Significant changes: We’ll phone the named emergency contact straight away. If there’s no answer, we’ll follow up by email.

On admission: You’ll complete an emergency contact & communication preferences form — tell us how you’d like to be contacted, including during unsociable hours.

Ongoing reviews: We review care plans monthly, and any updates or changes will be discussed with you.

Our aim is clear, timely communication — so you always feel informed and involved.

Do you celebrate birthdays and special occasions?

Absolutely! Birthdays and special occasions are always celebrated with warmth and care.

We’ll liaise with families to see if they’re planning something special — and if a resident is going out, we’ll happily adjust mealtimes so they can still enjoy their favourite meal of choice, along with a homemade cake baked by our kitchen team.

When residents first move in, we ask about their favourite meals, so we can make sure birthdays are truly personal. We also decorate their room with banners, sing happy birthday together, and present them with a thoughtful gift — often a salon or nail voucher, or something chosen with the help of carers who know them best. Because every milestone deserves to be celebrated with joy, dignity, and love.

Are snacks and drinks available throughout the day?

Absolutely! In addition to mealtimes, we have two daily tea trolleys offering hot drinks, fresh juices, and a selection of biscuits.

Residents also enjoy access to our snack trolley, where they can help themselves to a variety of treats whenever they fancy. This means there’s always something available — whether it’s a comforting cuppa with a biscuit, a refreshing juice, or a light snack in between meals. Because we know it’s the little comforts and freedoms that make a big difference.

Can residents go out, and do visitors need to be back by a certain time?

Families are welcome to take residents out whenever they like. If this happens between mealtimes, just let us know if you’d like a meal saved for their return — we’re more than happy to do that.

When visiting in the home, we simply ask that mealtimes are avoided as these are busy times. If you’d like to share a meal with your loved one, we can arrange this for £5 per person through the office team.

Do you offer nursing care?

We’re often asked this, so here’s the answer:

We are a residential care home and do not provide nursing care.

Our experienced team supports residents with daily living needs such as personal care, meals, medication assistance, and companionship — all in a warm, homely environment.

If a resident’s needs change and they require nursing care, we work closely with families and local services to ensure the best next steps.

Facilities

Can residents bring their own furniture or personal belongings?

Yes! We encourage residents to bring cherished belongings, photos, and even small pieces of furniture.

This helps create a space that feels truly personal and comforting — a real home from home.

Do you supply wheelchairs or walking aids?

We want every resident to feel safe, supported, and mobile.

If your loved one is already living with us and we feel they would benefit from mobility equipment, we will arrange a referral to an Occupational Therapist, who will assess and order any necessary items — such as a wheelchair or walking aid.

For new residents moving in, we kindly ask that any existing mobility aids — like a wheelchair or walker — are brought with them when they arrive. This helps us support their independence right from the start.

Finance

How much do your rooms cost?

Room fees at our home vary depending on availability and individual care needs.

Prices typically range from £1,187.22 to £1,530.87 per week.

If your loved one requires additional care support, there may be an extra fee of £145.00 per week — but please don’t worry, all fees are clearly discussed following a full care assessment.

We’re here to guide you every step of the way and ensure complete transparency.

Contact us for more information or to arrange a visit — we’d be happy to help.

What’s included in the fees?

Our fees include accommodation, freshly prepared meals, laundry, housekeeping, 24/7 care, and a full programme of activities.

Services such as hairdressing, chiropody, nail care, or personal newspapers do carry an extra cost, but these come from residents’ own funds. They can be arranged in-house, or external providers are welcome to visit the home too.

Medical

How is medication managed?

All medication is managed safely by our trained medication carers, following strict procedures to ensure every resident receives the right support at the right time. We work closely with local GPs and pharmacies, keeping everything well-organised and regularly reviewed.

Self-medication: Where appropriate, residents can self-medicate if they wish and are assessed as able. We’ll support this with safe storage, reminders if needed, and regular reviews. If they’d prefer, our team is fully trained and happy to take care of this on their behalf. Our priority is always safety and comfort, so you can rest assured your loved one’s health needs are carefully looked after. Of course, we’ll always keep families informed and involved in any health matters.

Will my loved one keep their own GP when they move in?

When a new resident joins us, we’ll register them with our local GP.

You don’t need to do a thing — we’ll take care of it all.

This helps ensure continuity of care and quick access to medical support when needed, with regular visits from our trusted local GP practice.

Of course, we’ll always keep families informed and involved in any health matters.

What happens in a medical emergency?

Immediate response: Our trained team assess the situation, give first aid, and call 999 for urgent, life-threatening concerns. For urgent but non-emergency issues, we’ll consult NHS 111/GP as appropriate or submit a patchs.

Essential information ready: We share the resident’s care plan, medication list, allergies, and any DNACPR/advance decisions with the attending clinicians.

Family contact: We’ll phone your named contact straight away. If there’s no answer, we’ll follow up by email, in line with your communication preferences (including unsociable hours).

If hospital transfer is needed: We arrange the ambulance, send a care summary/medications, and ensure personal essentials are ready. We’ll keep you updated throughout.

Afterwards: We record the incident, review the care plan, and discuss any changes with you.
